Miguel Cañas ocupaba el puesto de eBusiness & Internet Services manager en Epson Ibérica hasta que, en octubre de 2012, se lanzó a poner en marcha una consultoría de organización y sistemas de información cuyo principal foco son los entornos 2.0 creados para una mejor colaboración y comunicación entre organizaciones. Como él, son muchos los profesionales sénior, de amplia trayectoria y con experiencia en puestos de dirección, que deciden hacer las maletas –a veces por obligación– para emprender una nueva aventura como capitán de la nave.

Javier Nieto, director del área de asesoramiento a emprendedores de MOA BPI Group, reconoce que, en la mayoría de los casos, estos exdirectivos reconvertidos en emprendedores «levantan sus empresas en aquellos sectores en los que han desarrollado su carrera profesional, porque conocen bien el mercado, tienen experiencia y también contactos».

Otras veces, estos ex altos cargos sólo saben que quieren un cambio de rumbo y necesitan dejar sus puestos para elegir un nuevo camino. Esto es lo que le pasó a Juan Manuel Martín Menéndez, autor del libro Que tengas un gran día, quien admite que salir de la empresa multinacional que dirigía en España y Portugal le permitió «parar, explorar otros intereses, reflexionar y decidir que mi felicidad estaba en otra parte».MotivosMarta Díaz Barrera, fundadora de Talentoscopio, sabe que el sueldo y la estabilidad son importantes, a los 50 y a los 30 años, pero reconoce que la ilusión y el cambio son fundamentales. Cree, además, que cuando un profesional sénior decide lanzar su propio proyecto lo hace por muchos motivos: «puede ser porque ha encontrado una oportunidad clara y tiene una buena red de contactos adquirida durante muchos años; quizá sea porque la situación vital se lo esté pidiendo; puede ser que haya perdido la ilusión por el proyecto por cuenta ajena que ha desarrollado durante todo ese tiempo».

Sea cual sea la razón, lo cierto es que dejar atrás un puesto de responsabilidad, con ciertas garantías, para lanzar un negocio propio requiere valor. No obstante, estos profesionales no suelen dar puntada sin hilo. Javier Nieto asegura que su amplia experiencia, su backoffice y sus contactos les permiten poner en marcha empresas con un futuro prometedor. Algo que no está exento de un buen análisis.

Cuando un profesional sénior decide emprender puede toparse con barreras familiares y, en función del sector en el que haya desarrollado su carrera, también puede encontrarse con otro tipo de frenos, como «la tecnología, la falta de conocimientos de idiomas, los nuevos modelos organizativos e, incluso, la difícil convivencia y distinta cultura empresarial de las diferentes generaciones que participan en el proyecto», enumera Díaz Barrera.

Cañas admite que «a la hora de buscar partners te encuentras con la nueva ola de millenials que puede descolocarte un poco, pero si sintonizas bien logras adaptarte.
